Serrapeptase (Serratiopeptidase) is a protein (proteolytic) enzyme which has a long history in medicine and is widely used to treat various kinds of inflammation and inflammatory disorders. It is often prescribed in various specialties like surgery, orthopedics, otorhinolaryngology, gynecology, and dentistry for its anti-inflammatory, anti-endemic and analgesic effects.

Most of BSE’s potent anti-inflammatory ef ects occur by inhibition of the enzyme, 5 lipoxygenase, which decreases the production of pro-inflammatory leukotrienes.
